Romania cuisine is very original. The main ingredients used by Romanian chefs are meats such as pork, beef and lamb, fish, 3.jpgvegetables, dairy products and fruit. The most popular dish is “mititei" -the "Wee Ones" - small skinless grilled sausages. Also Mamaliga among the favorites,  made out of yellow maize cooked in boiling water with salt; when cold, it can be cut into slices just like bread; usually served hot mixed with cheese and eggs.
Romanian wines are very good. Romania is a big wine producer and some of the best wineries are Murfatlar, Cotnari, Bohotin, Jidvei etc.
The national drink is the double-distilled tuica, usually made with plums, but also with apples and pears. An even stronger variant is called palinca. Beer is popular and there is a large variety of lagers (bere blonda) and brown ales (bere neagra), usually sold in bottles. The most important local brand is Ursus.
Desserts are usually crepes filled with fruits or cherry strudel. Other desserts in Romania include baclava, which is sweet layered pastry; sponge cake known as pandispan; rice pudding or orez cu lapte; and gingerbread or turta dulce.Unfortunately it is difficult to find it in Romania restaurants.
