Geography

Argentina is a South American country. It is second in size on the South American continent to Brazil and eighth in the world. It can roughly be divided into four parts: the fertile plains of the Pampas in the center of the country, the source of Argentina's agricultural wealth; the flat to rolling, oil-rich plateau of Patagonia in the southern half down to Tierra del Fuego; the subtropical flats of the Gran Chaco in the north, and the rugged Andes mountain range along the western border with Chile. There are a lot of rivers in Argentina. Major rivers include the Pilcomayo, Paraguay, Bermejo, Colorado, Rio Negro, Salado, 3.jpgUruguay and the largest river, the Parana. The latter two flow together before meeting the Atlantic Ocean, forming the estuary of the Rio de la Plata.

Climate 
The climate is predominantly temperate with extremes ranging from subtropical in the north to subpolar in the far south. Media temperature is + 24° C in the north and + 5° C in the south.
The north of the country is characterized by very hot, humid summers with mild drier winters, and is subject to periodic droughts. Central Argentina has hot summers with thunderstorms (in western Argentina producing some of the world's largest hail), and cool winters. The southern regions have warm summers and cold winters with heavy snowfall, especially in mountainous zones. Argentines usually take vacations in January and February, the summer season.

Population
Argentina’s current population is about 35 million inhabitants, almost half of which live in the city and the province of Buenos Aires.

Language
The official language of Argentina is Spanish. German, French and Italian are also spoken.

Religion
Argentines are predominantly Roman Catholic .At the same time there is complete religious freedom in 1.jpgArgentina. Other religions practiced in the country are Protestant, Jewish, Moslem, Greek Orthodox, Russian Orthodox and others.

Currency
The official Argentine currency is the Peso. There are bills of 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 pesos, and coins of 1 peso and 1, 5, 10, 25, and 50 cents. U.S. currency is widely accepted at major stores throughout the country. MasterCard, Visa and American Express are widely accepted.

Currency exchange
Foreign currency can be exchanged at casas de cambio, banks, hotels and travel agencies. Most banks use ticket system –you receive ticket with your own number and wait till you will be calling. This procedure takes too much time.

Imports and Exports
Travelers may import up to 20 cigarettes and 25 cigars, 2 l of alcoholic beverages, 5 kg of food. Fresh foods such as fruit, meats or cheeses are prohibited. There are no restrictions on currency imports; however, up to an equivalent to US$10,000 in foreign currency or precious metals is prohibited.

Tipping
The tipping of metered taxi drivers is optional. At hotels, tipping porters US$1 per bag is customary, while additional tips may be given to bellmen and maids. Restaurants usually add a service charge; if the tip is not included, customers are expected to give a 10 percent tip.

Sights
Cordoba is the second largest city in the country. Many trips to Argentina include visiting of Cordoba. Today wonderful collection of colonial buildings is concentrated in the compact center of Cordoba. Among these buildings  worth to  pay special attention an old market, to the cathedral of Iglesia (catholic domes) and historical museum of Jesuit Iglezi de la Compan'ya - one from the most important historical museums in the country.

Iguazu Falls

The rest in Argentina will not be full, if you will not visit the waterfalls of Iguazu located in a national park Iguazu, near Puerto Iguazu.  Iguazu Falls are waterfalls of the Iguazu River located on the border of the Brazilian state of Parana and the Argentine province of Missiones . The falls divide the river into the upper and lower Iguazu. The waterfall system consists of 275 falls along 2.7 kilometers  of the Iguazu River . Some of the individual falls are up to 82 m in height, though the majority is about 64 m. Two thirds of the falls are within Argentine territory.
Around 200 km. away from the falls, there is another attractive point: the Jesuitic Ruins of San Ignacio, which testify the coming to these lands of the famous religious company founded by Saint Ignacio of Loyola. Another place worth visiting is the magnificent semi-precious stones deposit: Minas de Wanda
Mar del Plata  city lies about 400 km south of Buenos Aires on the Atlantic Coast, is a young city, founded in 1874, by the developer Patricio Peralta Ramos, in the last 50 years has become in a important tourist destination, actually is the most important seaside resort in Argentina and receives more than 3 million tourists every year.
Mar del Plata combines the beauty of its natural resources with the excellent quality infrastructure, services and hospitality of its people, its combination of masses of humid, hot, sea subtropical air and a temperature of over 22єC gives to Mar de Plata a temperate climate.
Mar del Plata is one of the preferred places that Argentines choose to go on their vacations, its surroundings offer many of the best beaches in South America, there are also ecological reserves, many fancy resorts, fishing villages and many other attractions.
Most activities in Mar del Plata center on the beach, you can enjoy activities like swimming, bike crossings, horse rides, diving, fishing, paragliding, windsurfing, jet skiing, tandem or baptism flights.

The Pampa
The Pampa region is a mainly flat area, which is interrupted only by two groups of hills called sierras: the Tandil Sierras (500 m a.s.l.) and the Ventana Sierras (1200 m.a.s.l.). The region possesses great areas used for grain sowing and cattle farming. Land of the Gauchos, these people is conscious of their tradition.
Also found in this province are mountain chains of the Sierra del Nevado (up to 1200 m) and the Sierra Lihuel Calel.
Of regional importance is the National Park Lihué Calel that holds interesting tourist spots like the wild pumas, which reside in the quite surreal stone desert.
The regional tourism plays an important role in Santa Fe. For foreign tourists, some of the interesting things to see are the historical monuments of the capital Santa Fe, the big town Rosario, and the recreation regions of Rio Parana.
Luján is a city of Buenos Aires, very known as pilgrimage center; its Basilica is the most important spiritual place of Argentina. The National Basilica, a place for touristy and religious tourism, has an ostentatious sanctuary that reflect and gothic art, hoarding the exquisiteness done by different field artists; it was built between 1887 and 1935.
The Virgin of Luján, located inside the Basilica, is a clay statue 38 centimeters tall, was molded in Brazil and then envied to Argentina in 1630.  It looks like Immaculate of Murillo, has an inscription that says. “It is Virgin of Luján the founder of this town”.
